Nominations have been announced for the 2005 Q Awards, the high profile music industry awards. Winners will be announced at a ceremony at London's Grosvenor House Hotel on October 10th. Perennial Q favourites Oasis are dominating the announcement headlines, having been nominated for five awards. In previous years the Manchester rock band has won Q Awards for 'Best New Act' (1994), 'Best Live Act' (1995 and 2004) and 'Best Act In The World Today' (1996 and 1997). Rival British rock group Coldplay have been nominated for four awards. The Q Awards are one of the few music industry prizes that are voted for by the public. This year's public vote categories include: Best New Act (sponsored by Island Records); Best Live Act; Best Track; Best Album (sponsored by Play.com); and Best Act in the World Today (sponsored by Aloud.com). Among other sponsors, Play.com is 'official retail sponsor' and Carling 'official beer' for the Awards, while the 'official wine sponsor' is PKNT.
