UK classical music radio station Classic FM has teamed up with Haymarket-owned specialist magazine The Gramophone to produce the 2005 Classic FM Gramophone Awards. This is the 29th year of the Gramophone Awards, often dubbed the 'Oscars' of the classical music world. Six discs have been selected by a panel of experts as winners in six categories. This shortlist was announced on September 1st at Wigmore Hall. Now readers and listeners are invited to vote for the Record of the Year, to be selected from the six award winners. The six winners will receive substantial airtime as well as the attendant publicity. The winners will be broadcast in the afternoon show on Classic FM on 17th and 18th September, while the editor of The Gramophone will host two special hour-long Awards programmes on 24th September and 1st October. Listeners to the Classic FM station can also vote for their favourite artist in the Classic FM Listeners' Choice Award. Voting for this honour closed on 9th September. The Gramophone Awards will be announced at the Dorchester Hotel in London. In addition to the Record of the Year and Listener's Choice Awards, there will also be awards presented for Lifetime Achievement, Artist of the Year, Editor's Choice, Special Achievement of the Year and Label of the Year.
