The 10th Annual Webby Awards have been launched with calls for entries from websites across the globe. The awards, dubbed 'the online equivalent of an Oscar' by The New York Times, seek to honour web sites and the innovators behind them. The 10th Annual awards will have a total of 65 categories, including three new blog categories that reflect the changing nature of the Internet. For the 9th Annual awards the winners were selected from over 4,400 entries from 40 countries. The Webby Awards are presented by the International Academy of Digital Arts & Sciences, a global organisation with over 500 members including musician David Bowie, Virgin Group founder Sir Richard Branson, The Body Shop President Anita Roddick, Simpsons creator Matt Groening, Real Networks CEO Rob Glaser and fashion designer Max Azria. Nominees and Webby Worthy selections will be announced in April 2006 and the winning sites will be unveiled in May ready for the New York City awards ceremony in June 2006.
