The 2005 Premier Rugby Marketing Awards, annual awards which seek to recognise off-the-field activity of rugby clubs in the Zurich Premiership, were announced recently. Among the winners were Worcester Warriers, who celebrated their first season in the top flight league with two awards. The club received the 'Best Club - Highly Commended' award along with the 'Best Club Sponsor' award for its relationship with Worcester-based energy company, npower. Northampton Saints had been shortlisted for seven of the nine awards, the highest number of nominations of any of the 12 clubs in the Premiership. They won three awards - 'Best Club Programme', 'Best Community Programme' and 'Best Promotional Initiative'. The 'Premiership Club Sponsor of the Year' award went to Blackthorn, sponsors of Bath Rugby. Blackthorn, which is based in Somerset, was particularly commended for its regional initiatives such as its 'Golden Boot' kicking competition for Under-21 players and its 'Top of the Props' challenge. Bath Rugby also won an award for the Powergen Community Programme. Gloucester Rugby Club won top prize in the 'Wild Card' category, for its hosting of the England Under-21s games. Saracens won the category for Best Website, while Leeds Tykes' matchday programme was named best in the premiership. The Tykes also won an award for its delivery of the Powergen National Community Programme.
