Galway Races Show Value of Horse Racing
Last week's Galway Races, the week-long festival of racing in the west of Ireland, was said to be worth over €60m to the local economy. The festival has become a must-see event for socialites, politicians and business people alike, and has a sponsors list to match. With live television coverage by the state broadcaster in Ireland, and the country's leading political parties all hosting events in a village of corporate hospitality marquees, the Galway Races are an outstanding example of the value of horse racing for corporate promotional purposes. Highlight of the week's racing is the Hewlett-Packard Galway Plate, which was worth €200,000 to the winning owner. The 2005 event was the 21st year that Hewlett-Packard have sponsored the Galway Plate event, along with several other races at the Galway meeting. A list of UK and Ireland racecourses, and details of sponsorship and corporate hospitality opportunities, visit Awards-Trophies-Supplier.co.uk. That site also offers silver plated equestrian trophies along with a huge collection of non-specific silver trophies, crystal awards, trays and salvers and other presentation items suitable for race sponsors. The only thing missing is a crystal Galway Plate trophy, though the winners of the event at the Galway Races actually receive a silver tray despite the name of the race.
