The annual Sony Radio Academy Awards 2005 were announced in a ceremony at London's Grosvenor House Hotel last night. The Awards have been running for over 20 years and are regarded as one of the most prestigious radio awards in the UK. They are produced and directed by Zafer Associates, and organised by a committee whose members are selected by the Radio Academy in consultation with Zafer and sponsors Sony UK. The judging panel for 2005 comprised over 100 judges who listened to over 1500 hours of radio programming. The awards can be divided into four main groups of categories: Music & Entertainment Awards; News & Speech Awards; Production Awards; and Station Awards. Within each category (32 in total) there are Gold, Silver and Bronze awards. There were also two special awards this year, the 2004 Award and the Gold Award.
