The week-long Billboard Latin Music Conference & Awards, held in Miami, were capped yesterday by the announcement of the 2005 Billboard Latin Music Award winners. The awards claim to be the most prestigious awards show in the music industry and reward the most popular albums, songs and perfomers in Latin music. Winners are selected from a list of finalists that is determined by the sales and radio airplay data that underpins Billboard's weekly charts. The glamorous awards show includes performances from leading artists as well as a host of discretionary awards such as Spirit of Hope (for humanitarian contributions) and the Lifetime Achievement award. Broadcaster Telemundo presents its own Estrella award, and a People's Choice award, selected by online polling of viewers, is also presented.
